Frequently Asked Questions
-
Q. I have a chimney but I do not have a fireplace. Do I still need to have my chimney inspected?
-
A. We recommend that you do if your chimney is used to vent a fuel burning appliance such as a furnace or water heater. When fuels burn they release chemicals that when mixed with water form acids that in time erode your clay flue tiles. This can lead to poor performance of the heating unit but more importantly it could allow carbon monoxide to enter your house.
-
Q. I have a metal flue liner. Do I still need an annual inspection and cleaning?
-
A. Yes. Most manufacturers of metal flue liners require annual inspections to keep them in warranty. Also, creosote builds up in metal liners as well and needs to be cleaned out to avoid creosote fires.
-
Q. I am buying a new home with a wood burning fire place. Should I have it inspected before I buy?

Even if you do not plan to use the fireplace older homes use existing chimneys to vent heating units and water heaters and it is important to have those inspected as well.
